How to get a CSCS card
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is used to give proof of your construction skills and qualifications to work on a construction site. CSCS cards were introduced to improve standards in the UK construction industry.
Do I need a CSCS card?
It’s not a legal requirement, but many larger contractors and major house builders require that subcontractors hold them to be able to work on their sites. Getting one is therefore a good idea to prevent restricting the jobs you can work on.
I don’t know how to get a CSCS card
Don’t worry, we’ve got your back! You can apply online to get a CSCS card.
Here’s what you will need close by when you apply:
- A scanned copy of your qualification certificate or proof that you’re registered to complete a qualification course
- The test ID number HS&E test
- A credit or debit card – there’s an application fee of £36
Once ordered, most cards arrive within 3-5 working days via Royal Mail, although wait up to 10 days before contacting them as COVID-19 has affected the speed of deliveries.
Do I need an CSCS card to join the CIS?
No, you don’t need a CSCS card to join the Construction Industry Scheme. Whilst closely related, you can be part of one without the other.
