Why should you submit your tax return over the Christmas period?
The deadline to complete your Self Assessment Tax Return for the 22/23 tax year is January 31st 2024. Each year, UK taxpayers rush to meet this deadline at the very last minute. If this is you, you are not alone. Last year a whopping 3,275 tax returns were completed on Christmas Day!
We’re suggesting that you join the thousands of people and try to submit your tax return in Christmas period or even on the big day itself.
Why submit this Christmas?
We hear you, the Christmas period is a busy time of year but there are many benefits to completing your tax return during this festive time of year;
Get it out the way
By filing your Self Assessment Tax Return way ahead of the January 31st deadline, you can avoid having to deal with it in the new year and can start 2024 with one less thing to be worried about.
Beat the rush
Many people put off completing their tax return until the latter days in January, so by filing earlier, you can avoid the potential delays of the busy HMRC systems which only get busier closer to the deadline.
Peace of mind
Completing the return in advance means you have more time to check everything is correct and get help from us at Earnr if needed. Leaving your tax return until the last minute can cause unnecessary stress.
Potential Refund sooner
If your tax return shows you are owed a refund, filing earlier can mean that HMRC are able to process it sooner and you could therefore receive your refund more quickly.
Avoiding penalties
If your tax return is submitted by the deadline, there’s little risk of incurring a penalty for late filing, use the Christmas period to submit and make sure that you are not penalised.
Some people may find it difficult to focus on tax returns during the festive season when they have other commitments. But for many, treating it like another task to cross off the list can provide some relief in the busy Christmas period.
